“Attitude is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than what people do or say. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. The remarkable thing is, we have the choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.” ~Charles Swindoll
What is your reaction when you hear the words “healthy”, “healthy eating”, or “diets”? What feelings and thoughts come to you right away? Are the thoughts you associate with “healthy”, “healthy eating” or “diets” negative or positive?
If you have a negative attitude towards healthy living or the changes required for a healthier living style, this attitude can be detrimental to achieving your goals.
A positive attitude will permit a healthier outlook and keep you focused on your goals and the results you are seeking.
When I think of “healthy”, the first thing I think of is bran and whole wheat. When I think of “diet” the first thing I think about is deprivation.
Exercising new thoughts about the words that interact with you negatively will take time and will require giving yourself constant reminders to think on a larger scale. Our experiences, those of people close to us, or even news stories influence and embed feelings towards these words. Be aware of your attitude and remind yourself you are building a new attitude with positive behaviors and positive outcomes. It will take time, trial and error to learn healthier practices which will in turn give you a more positive attitude. Your attitude may have been what was hindering past performances towards fitness and wellness.
