An overweight woman sits alone at the local burger joint. Her meal is the same size as your own. She has arrived there by the influence of the commercial she viewed on TV that afternoon, the very commercial you had seen yourself. This commercial showed an amazing juicy hamburger with crispy lettuce, tomatoes and onion, when viewing the commercial you felt as if you could smell it, unknown to you, your body reacted to the sight of the burger with mouth watering, stomach growling and a craving.
You sit in the booth across from the obviously overweight woman. You both eat a hamburger, fries and a medium soft drink. The food is going down like a dream come true. It awakens your senses all over your body, you feel relaxed and satisfied. The woman across from you feels the same way. The food fills the void your mind created by watching the commercial. The food in the restaurant represents convenience and great tasting food. Nutritional facts about the food are never voiced by any one. The point of the meal is to feed you and fill you up with pleasure and substance.
The woman finishes her meal and feels an accomplishment in soothing her cravings. You also feel the same as you finish up on your soft drink at the end of your meal.
What is the difference between you and this woman?
You are a few pounds over the recommended weight for your height; she is seriously over the recommended weight for her height. The other difference, no one is judging you for being in the restaurant. Even you, had thoughts “How could she be eating that food and weigh that much?” “You think she would be embarrassed to eat out, she should be watching what she eats”
Many systems have been proposed for controlling the increased cases of obesity, although they have not been successful. In one state, they proposed to ban obese people from dining out.
The reason we eat unhealthy food is the most important. The ignorance of our food intake makes us lazy about our health needs. Should be judging others at all?
