Shin splint is a' general' name given to inflammation and tenderness of the shin area. Shin splints are the result of stress and strain on the muscle, bones, tendons and connective tissue in the lower leg between the knee and ankle.
Pain in the lower leg or along the front of the shin is a symptom of shin splints. Common causes of shin splints are over use, exercising on concrete or surfaces that do not have enough cushion, repetitive high intensity exercises or landing on your toes instead of your entire foot.
Strengthening, stretching and warm up and preventing the over use of lower leg area is great management for this condition.
