Always have a great hair day

There is anxiety involved in putting trust into someones talents. Give someone a pair of scissors does not make them a good hair dresser.

When you get to a point and need some changes in your life, your hair is a great place to start. Deciding to take on a new look can be exciting and bit stressful. You will know when the time comes to make a change in your appearance when every time you look in the mirror you grunt or make a noise of discontentment. This should be obvious that there is need for change, but not always. We can get into such a rut that we think it is normal not to be happy with what we have, or have been told that we should be happy with what we have. Well get over it and on with it, just might be the best and the most freeing decision to make.

So to make a statement, feel sexy, feel like yourself again, or whatever motivation you may have to make a real change in your hair, you need not just someone who knows how to cut hair but someone understands where your head is at. Most of the time we will have a bad hair day and make an appointment, rush in and need a fix. This is a crap shoot on if you really needed it, will like it or if the hair dresser even cares.

A great start is getting to know your hair dresser, give her/him pictures, not just one but several. Tell them what you want, and what you don't want. I have a round face and if cut too short there is a chance of a beach ball walking out of the salon instead of something I can live with. My hair grows really slow, and my hair dresser needs to know this. Have the hair dresser discussion for as long as you are comfortable, the other people have most likely been to a salon before and are used to waiting, we are talking about hair here.

As sad as it is your hair sets the mood for your day. Maybe not your entire mood, but a bad hair day can cause a domino effect of bad hair to bad mood. Have them start slow, tell you what they are doing (if they are really good they will make you feel confident through the process) A really good hair dresser will show you how to style your hair, suggest products and different ways you can wear your hair. If it is your first time at the salon ask direct questions before they even touch your head.

Show pictures, several

ask what would look good with your type of hair and shape of your face

ask straight out, can you do this

Listen for a conversation about your hair, it is all about you

If you are not comfortable, just don't do it. Sometimes people will just lay trust in someone because they have a licence or certificate hanging on the wall. Not all hair dressers will be the one who gets you and what you need. They may be great with kids but with your long locks of split ends and heat damage, they might not get it.

I grew my hair past my shoulders, changed the colour several times, everyone in the magazines had no bang, straight long hair. Well I tried it and my hair looked great for an hour a day, then, it being thin straight (no body) it just went limp, in my face and looked drab. So although it took forever to get there, it just wasn't me. I had a great hair dresser and I feel good. Now when I want my hair done I don't think there will so much anxiety and fear involved.
